Literary Genres Of Books

Since you are an avid reader, you must have a basic understanding of literature. If not, you will learn what types of literature there are by reading this article. Without keeping you in suspense any longer, we divide literature into lyric, epic, and drama.

Lyric – This word comes from the Greek language of lyre (it means lute – a musical instrument). They are characterized by the fact that there is a lyrical subject (orator) in a given work, which subjectively tells about his experiences, emotions, feelings, and thoughts. There are also many (figurative) metaphors, comparisons, epithets, rhymes, and personifications in lyrical compositions. In the old days, the lyric was only used in combination with musical accompaniment, but later, it was separated from the music. The lyrical works include hymns, songs, odes, sonnets, elegy, train, and lyrical poems.

Drama – It is a literary work intended to be performed on stage. There are direct dialogues and monologues. The drama is divided into acts and scenes. Thanks to this literary genre, actors can play their roles in, for example, theater. A drama can have a tragic ending (tragedy) or a happy ending (comedy). The drama also includes the following genres: opera, operetta, nativity play, musical.

Epic – In this literary genre, there is a literary subject and a narrator. The narrator tells the events, comments on them, and describes the world that appears in the reading, while the lyrical subject participates in all these events and tells about them. The epics include a ballad, a fairy tale, a short story, an anecdote, a memoir, a satire, or a novel.
