Danganronpa is a series of three action and adventure games from the visual novel genre, enriched with detective elements. The plot of the series is based on the adventures of the protagonist, who, depending on the part of the game, is at school or on a tropical island. The player takes on the role of a character whose task is to solve a puzzle, murder, or other unexplained events. The game is enriched with adventure and criminal elements. In the first part – Trigger Happy Havoc- the player is locked up in a school for the most talented students – Hope’s Peak Academy. However, Hope’s Peak Academy is not an ordinary school.
At the beginning of the game, the player realizes that all windows and doors are locked, and there is no way out. The only creature that comes across (apart from other students) is a black-white teddy bear named Monokuma, who gives a very interesting ultimatum. In order to get out of school, we have to kill another student in such a way that no one can prove our crime to us. It is very similar in subsequent parts of the game, only the place of action changes.
Danganronpa is full of extremely interesting dialogues, with the help of which we have to guess and find the answer to which of the students is the murderer. The most distinctive aspect of this title is the class trials. We proceed to each trial with a package of information and circumstantial evidence that we collect during our “investigation”. Danganronpa requires logical and creative thinking, thanks to which we will be able to unmask the murderer. However, this task is not the easiest one – each statement has to be thoroughly analyzed in order to see a lie or inaccuracy in it.
